Vacations are crucial, but they aren’t about flying off to Hawaii or sipping Margaritas at Club Med. Vacations are about vacating the usual rhythms and routines, returning to your true self, getting back to your center and living your life more consciously and fully, long after summer vacation has ended, regardless of whether or not you have a calm ocean, warm day, or blue skies.

“Explorers depend on the North Star when there are no other landmarks in sight. The same relationship exists between you and your right life, the ultimate realization of your potential for happiness. I believe that a knowledge of that perfect life sits inside you just as the North Star sits in its unaltered spot.
“Finding your way in a wild new world reveals a path to the most important discovery you can make: the knowledge of what you should be doing with your one wild and precious life. It’s a journey to the thing that so fulfills you that, if someone told you, “It’s right outside–but watch out–it could kill you!” you’d run straight toward it, through the screen door without even opening it,” -Martha Beck.

People living with invisible illnesses have to sometimes convince others of their symptoms.
People who break their arm, throw out their back, or experience another form of injury may be in rough shape, but others can see their injury and understand their limitations.
But for the millions of people who are living with arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and other forms of pain that are "invisible illnesses," explaining what's wrong is another side effect of their condition. Not only do you have to put up with challenging, often painful, and sometimes debilitating conditions every day, but on top of that, you may have to face skepticism from people — friends, family, and co-workers, as well as strangers — who don't understand what's wrong with you.
The social isolation and challenges women face with chronic disease are not unique among people with fibromyalgia, endometriosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, or similar health issues. These conditions can be difficult to prove, and relationships are often drained and strained from living with a loved one with debilitating pain.
In addition, a woman living with chronic disease is often challenged by living inside of her body. Body image struggles, eating issues, chronic hatred towards a body that doesn’t feel well, and pain in general, causes a split between the body and spirit.
Averi Kaplowitch, a college student in Syracuse, knows this pain well. She has spent hours, days and years sitting in her room behind closed doors, crying and feeling defeated by debilitating pain, while her friends were out playing soccer, eating pizza and living normal teenage lives. Averi has lived with pain since the age of 13, improperly diagnosed, tested and retested, and finally diagnosed with endometriosis.
In this podcast, you will learn:
- How to trust your body and let it guide you to the answers you need to heal
- A young woman’s courageous story of triumph and courage and how she chooses life, even in pain
- How Averi’s pain has also shaped who she is, matured her and helped her speak out about her pain to help others
- How to be your best advocate for your own health and stand in your own worthiness and truth
- How to support someone that is going through chronic pain and use your voice to shine a light upon the smartest part of you: your body
